We offer graded classes in classical ballet from the age of 2½. Children from the age of 4 are offered the opportunity to take their Silver and Gold Rose examinations with the BTDA. Children and teachers enter the exam room together giving the children confidence for future examinations. When the children have passed their Rose awards they move to Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Grades starting from Primary in Dance, Grade 1 through to Grade Eight. Medal Tests are taken every two years, where the children undertake the learning of a solo dance and perform it in front of an examiner and audience.
These classes require a uniform which can be purchased from the studio or from dance shops in the area.
From the age of 11 high achieving students will be picked to enrol in Royal Academy of Dance Major Ballet classes, these students will take examinations in the Major grades alongside their graded examinations.
Pupils may start Pointe Work classes from Grade 4 and above. Teachers will assess the pupil’s ability before being allowed to purchase a pair of Pointe Shoes. Pointe work is a slow process of building strength. This class builds strength and technique for the student, with care and attention to detail so not to damage the students feet.
We study the British Theatre Dance Association syllabus for tap. Starting with our youngest taking Silver and Gold Rose Awards and then on to Graded classes, through to senior level with students taking Major examinations ending their training with a Diploma in Tap. Medal Tests are taken every two years where the students will experience a solo dance performance.
Tap Dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sound of one’s taps hitting the floor as a percussive instrument, as such it is commonly considered as a form of music.
We offer classes for adults on a Tuesday evening. Adults will need to have a basic knowledge of tap to be able to take part in this class. A fun way to keep fit, tone up your legs and have a giggle!!
We follow the BTDA syllabus starting with Silver and Gold Rose and then onto Graded Examinations through to, Major examinations and then a Diploma in Modern Jazz. Students also take part in Medal Tests, dancing solo performances in front of an audience.
Modern Jazz Dance is a good subject for students to start with, classes start with a fun warm up and then on to exercises to strengthen, extend and loosen the body. This is a class good for co-ordination and stamina, and for students that want to keep fit.
We have a uniform for all tap and modern students to wear, this can be purchased from the studio or from local dancewear shops.
